Spreading grass seed has never been easier. Smart SeederT simplifies and accelerates the grass seeding process while ensuring uniform seed distribution. Tossing seed out by hand is inefficient and results in wasted seed, extra effort and poor results. The two delivery options (shaker or broadcast) allow for an even application no matter how big or small the area you are seeding.

Broadcast Delivery:
1. Slide release lever to the OPEN position. When overseeding select a REDUCED FLOW setting.
2. Turn hand crank while walking at a steady, even pace.
3. Monitor the swath of seed spread and adjust as you return. Slight overlapping on return passes is recommended to ensure full coverage.
4. Return to CLOSED setting when you stop.
Shaker Delivery:
1. Make sure release lever is in the CLOSED position.
2. Flip open shaker cap.
3. Apply seed by shaking container over desired seeding area in a consistent manner.
Preparing Planting Area
New lawns: Remove all debris from planting area and rake or till to loosen the top 2 to 3 inches of soil. Level area and grade to drain away from buildings.
Established lawns: To thicken an existing lawn, mow your grass as short as possible, rake thoroughly to remove any debris or dead grass and expose the soil.
Bare spots: Rake to loosen the top ¼ inch of soil.
Fertilizing
Apply a starter fertilizer, such as Vigoro® Ultra TurfT Starter Fertilizer, at the recommended rate. This ensures the soil has the right proportion of nutrients that new grass plants need to become an established, healthy lawn.
Planting
Sow evenly over the planting area at the recommended rate. For new lawns and for treating bare spots, gently rake seed into soil.
Watering
KEEP SOIL MOIST by lightly watering two to three times daily until seed germination is complete (2 to 4 weeks). Continue to water until the lawn has reached establishment, then water as needed.
Tip: A typical established lawn requires between ½ and 1 inch of water each week.
